2011 Highlights

Champion of Champions Final - 12G/1

The 12G/1 team player the Final of the Champions of Champions on Saturday the 22nd October.

It was a great game, finishing 1-1 after full time, and then remained 1-1 after extra time. The game came down to a penalty shootout, never a good way to finish a great game. Unfortunately we lost the shootout, but the girls should be very proud to have come so far. The 12G/1 finished second in the state, an outstanding achievement.

A big thank you to all those who came down to support the girls. Also a big thank you to Simon Bass for all his efforts coaching the girls.

September 24-25: Over 35's Men's Tournament in Huskisson

Hazelbrook entered a O35's team in the MASTER’S CARNIVAL BY THE OCEAN at Huskisson.

The team travelled down to Huskisson on Friday for the Tournament on Saturday and Sunday. There were 16 teams divided into 4 pools, with Hazelbrook in pool C.

The first game was a close match against Cowra with the Hawks leading 1-0 thanks to a great goal by Shannon Decker. We held Cowra out until the last 30 seconds when a late goal levelled the scores at 1-1. Iwan Howell valiantly tried to stop the goal that slipped passed Simon Bass.

The next game started with the best 15 minutes in O35's living memory. We were 3-0 up and dominating. Ask Pat Gardener about the first goal (if you haven't already heard). Shannon Hay poached the ball from the kickoff and had James Goodlet slotting home the second in less than a minute. Our illustrious leader, Nick Bowman secured the 3rd goal. The game finished at 3-0 as the Hawks decided to conserve their energy.

The final game on Saturday was a closer match against highly rated Brindabella. However the Hawks had most of the possession and just needed to convert one of their many chances. Sir Dave (Murray) managed the subs beautifully allowing Paul Murray the opportunity to receive the ball at the back post and blast the ball past the keeper. The Hawks held on, but after the first game wanted to get another goal. Alan Gregory pounced on the ball and put the game beyond doubt.

The Hawks had topped Pool C and were into the finals on Sunday.

Unfortunately bad weather set in overnight and the finals were called off. The boys where left to imagine what could have been, but vowed to return next year to claim the top spot.

Many thanks to Nick Bowman for organising and David Murray for his coaching expertise.

Well Done U18's

More positive feedback!

Dear Martin (and Executive of Hazelbrook Soccer Club)
My name is Martin Stein and I m the coach of the U18/2 Blue Mountains Football Club team. We played against your team on Sunday at Knapsack Park. We had a number of players injured and not available and so, we only had 8 players. When I told your acting coach, Tim, this, he was very understanding. Even though your team had 13 players arrive to play, Tim asked them, and they agreed, to play only 8 players against us. This meant that we had a competitive and entertaining game for the players and the spectators. I thanked Tim and the players at half time as I had to leave before the end of the game.
I would like to acknowledge this spirit of sportsmanship and let your club know the great things being done by your team. These actions speak so loudly about fair play and a love of our great game. Please pass on my thanks to Tim and the team.

Yours in sport
Martin
