Hawks to Get New Strip in 2009

New Strip - photo courtesy of #10 Teamwear Hazelbrook Hawks will look a tad smarter on the field next season after making a decision to upgrade to a new strip. The decision was partly due to the loss of availability of replacement shirts that matched the old strip. Rather than purchase new strips for only some teams, it was decided the time was right to move the whole club to a new look.

“We are keeping the same club colours of red, white and blue”, club President John Lougheed announced, “but moving to much more modern design. We still need final approval from Nepean on some aspects of the design but we’ll definitely be running around in a new strip next season.”

The strips will be supplied by #10 Teamwear and are made of high quality materials.

The move to a new strip has also opened debate as to when and if the club should change it’s name from ‘Hazelbrook Soccer Club’ to ‘Hazelbrook Football Club’, in line with changes being made to the code all around the country. With a possible move to a new venue in the future, although still to be confirmed and probably to a location in Lawson, it was also raised at the last committee meeting that the club may need a name that better reflects it’s position in the mid-mountains.

With a new strip about to be ordered, the time has come to consider the future, and should open up some robust debate amongst club members!

In order to prepare the club for the required Special General Meeting in the near future, all members should consider an appropriate new name for Hazelbrook Soccer Club Inc.

Towards the end of the season, old club shirts will be made available for purchase to club members who want to own a little bit of history.

Club History

Historical data shows that the first Soccer Club in the Mid Mountains was established in 1958 by Mr Stan Bignall, a teacher from Katoomba High School. This was known as Hazelbrook Youth Club. He organised two teams of boys for an Under 14 years competition and the children travelled from Katoomba and surrounding areas to play at Gloria Park.

The Hazelbrook Soccer Club grew from this youth Club in the 1970’s and was formed with the view of establishing a family atmosphere with its members. Those views are still prominent today. Hazelbrook was firstly affiliated with the Lithgow District Competition and then changing over in the early 1980’s to the Nepean DSFA.

Our Club was devastated in 1997 when vandals destroyed our Clubhouse. The fire not only took away our Clubhouse it also destroyed all our equipment. With the wonderful support of the local community, business’s and the soccer fraternity we were able to rebuild our “Hawks Nest” to be classified as one of the most picturesque grounds in NSW.

The Hazelbrook Hawks hope to provide the youth of the area with the opportunity and encouragement to play the game of soccer at the highest level possible, fostering the individual character and skills of its members whilst nurturing a community spirit.
